Mickelson’s Roaring Forties
Phil Mickelson claimed in Pebble Beach his 40th PGA Tour victory. The American left-hander had an impressive eight-under-par total of 64, finishing ahead of South-Korean’s Charlie Wi.
Standing at the fourth spot and trailing by six shots entering the final round of the Pebble Beach tournament, Phil Mickelson wasn’t leading the odds to triumph on the Californian course. Especially with Tiger Woods standing between the American left-hander and the leader Charlie Wi. But the golfer now represented by Lagardère Unlimited smashed everything in his path to claim a 40th PGA Tour victory.
Over the first six holes, he had three birdies and an eagle before finishing the day with an impressive 8-under-64 and a 269 total, two strokes ahead of the South-Korean. "It gives me a lot of confidence but also inspires me because I believe what I'm doing is correct and that I'm able to play some of my best golf", he said. He has now climbed back to the fifth spot in the PGA rankings. And the 4-times major champion will probably continue to go up.
