London is set to host the 2012 Olympic Games but the city is also a main stop in the triathlon season. The English capital is one of the six cities to host the Dextro Energy Triathlon-ITU World Championships, an event with a Grand Final held in Budapest in 2010 and in Beijing in 2011, from September 10 to 11.
The distances for the races are 1500 meters swim, 40 kilometers bike, and 10 kilometers run, like in the Olympic Games. This event presented by Tata Steel will offer for the very first time, from August 6 to 7, a trip out of Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace. Title-holder Javier Gomez has also succeeded in Hamburg in 2010, before being crowned World champion at the end of the season.
